How to Shoot in Any Situation

Shooting Light Trails

You can shoot light trails with almost any kinds of cameras. However, you would need to ensure that you have at least some control over exposure settings because it is important that you have longer shutter speeds. It is also pretty essential to have a tripod stand for your camera, lens hood (not that important but would come in pretty handy) and remote controls for your camera.

Besides that, you also pretty much have to ensure that the timing and light are just right. It’s a pretty good idea to have it while the sun is setting. You might also want to think about the height perspective when attempting to shoot light trails. For example, you can get some pretty nifty pictures when in a high building looking down at the moving traffic below. Lastly, you need to think about the framing for the picture – if the trails are all over the place, you lose your point of interest.

Shooting in Dark Lighting

Of course, many people would stare at you if you were to ask them this question. What is the flash for, they would probably ask. Well, my answer would be that there are at least two viable alternatives to shooting in the dark without even using the flash. Just make sure that your camera is steady (for best results, invest in a tripod and a remote or self timer). This ensures that you will still get sharp images even in the low light. You can also play around with the sensitivity (ISO) in your camera. Turn it up and you will get an exposure with less light.

Shooting Sharp Digital Photos without a Tripod

Now this has to be the million dollar question. All the image stabilizer and shake-free technology cannot erase the fact that even the slightest movement will affect the clarity of the photograph. As such, here are some cheat sheets for you to use in lieu of a tripod in those situations where one isn’t handy or readily available. Look around for a flat, steady surface or a horizontal surface like a table. However, you would need to make sure that it really will not shake when you are taking the picture. An expensive option would be to purchase image stabilizer enabled lens. These lenses – although slightly pricey – enable a person to shoot beautiful pictures through small movements on the camera.
